Dr. Jay Sharp is the Medical Director at Vituity LLC in Chicago, Illinois. He is another of our Gobi March docs who definitely “walks the walk” as far as the outdoors goes. Dr. Jay is an avid diver, road biker, hiker and mountaineer. He’s also a family man, enjoying frequent hikes with his wife Anna and three kids. The Gobi March (Mongolia) 2024 represents the seventh RacingThePlanet / 4 Deserts assignment for the Chicago-based medic and fifth time as the Medical Director. With his professional and personal interest in all things wild, Dr. Jay is just the kind of guy we like to have around. His love of the outdoors began as a young child and has flourished through adulthood. Like all our medical team, Jay successfully combines a passion for adventure with the special skills needed to save lives in hostile environments. After completing a degree in Biochemistry at the University of Notre Dame, he went on to medical school and completed his emergency medicine residency at the University of Illinois-Chicago followed by a Wilderness Medicine Fellowship at Stanford University Emergency Department. Jay’s professional focus has been on search and rescue, backcountry medicine, and dive medicine. We sincerely hope Dr. Jay never has to use all that specialist knowledge out in the Gobi Desert, but it’s reassuring to have people of his calibre watching everyone’s back.
