Stage 4: Stage 4: The Infamous Salar de Atacama
Wed, 02 Apr 2025 at 08 11 amIt's Stage 4, the Infamous Salar de Atacama, and 131 competitors set off at 8 a.m. for the 44.4 km (27.8 mi) Stage. This route takes them from the plateau of Zapar, in the shadow of the active Volcán Licancabur, down into the Jerez Valley towards the historic Tambillo Forest. They continue through the famous Salar de Atacama to Los Ojos de Salar (two deep ponds) and finally reach Camp 5 next to Laguna Tebinquinche.

Horses are on standby to deliver water to CheckPoint 3.

The youngest participant, Mike Gawron Jr. (16 years old), and the oldest participant, Ivan Schmidt (71 years young), both attempting the 4 Deserts Grand Slam Plus, and the best of friends now.
