John Williamson is an experienced endurance athlete who finished the demanding Bull of Africa, a six-day non-stop adventure race in South Africa. He has also competed at a national level in the Landrover G4 Challenge and Southern Storm stage race. He describes himself as never turning down a challenge. This might explain how he is able to manage and own seven quick-service restaurants in South Africa. John volunteered at the Atacama Crossing (Chile) 2011 and RacingThePlanet: Nepal 2011 before completing races as a competitor at RacingThePlanet: Jordan 2012, RacingThePlanet: Iceland 2013, RacingThePlanet: Sri Lanka 2016, Gobi March (China) 2017 and RacingThePlanet: New Zealand 2019. He also volunteered at the Sahara Race (Namibia) 2016, Namib Race (Namibia) 2018, the Special Edition of RacingThePlanet (Georgia) 2022 and Gobi March (Mongolia) 2023. John is now returning for his seventh time on the volunteer team at the RacingThePlanet: Greece 2025.

We are excited to welcome Jo Scott back to her sixth RacingThePlanet Ultramarathon. Jo also has lots of experience providing support for runners in other ultramarathons too - usually in colder and wetter conditions in the north of England. Jo is a full-time artist and illustrator who used to work with software providers for the arts and sporting industries, managing customers as diverse as the Tate Galleries and Silverstone Race Circuit. She has herself competed in triathlons and running events, and is a long-distance hiker. Jo designed the special poster given to finishers of the 4 Deserts Grand Slam (Plus).

Natasha Fanshawe calls herself a RacingThePlanet junky, stating that participating in the races is a life addiction. She has raced twice (in Jordan and Namibia) and volunteered eight times, including taking on a management role at some races.

She set up her own company, Light Style Space, as a declutterer where she helps people to get rid of unwanted stuff and simultaneously runs a sustainability network called "And The Future" with a friend. She also works on events when help is needed. If the event involves food or an adventure, she is there, and she thinks RacingThePlanet fulfills the latter. Amongst other job projects, Natasha has worked for the Olympic Committee in preparation for the London 2012 Olympics.

The races she has volunteered at previously include the Atacama Crossing 2011, RacingThePlanet: Iceland 2013, Ecuador 2015, Patagonia 2017, The Last Desert (Antarctica) 2018, Gobi March (Mongolia) 2019, RacingThePlanet: Lapland 2022, the Atacama Crossing 2023 - and is set to be at the Atacama Crossing in 2025. She has also completed RacingThePlanet: Jordan 2012 and the Namib Race 2016 as a racer. She is working herself up to racing in another event. Until then, we're thrilled to have her return as a volunteer for the tenth time at RacingThePlanet: Greece.

Angela Alchin is a proud Namibian who first volunteered for RacingThePlanet at the Namib Race in both 2022 - and then again in 2024. During the Namib Race 2024, fellow competitors encouraged her to take on the Gobi March, and just weeks later, she signed up. She completed the Gobi March in June 2024 and, inspired by the challenge, quickly registered for RacingThePlanet: The 20-Year Race in Jordan three months later. Her journey didn’t stop there - she went on to conquer The Last Desert (Antarctica) in December 2024. An avid traveler, Angela sees stage racing as an exhilarating way to explore the world and is eager to take on more ultras in the future. She joins her sixth RacingThePlanet / 4 Deserts Ultramarathon - and thrid time as a volunteer - at RacingThePlanet: Greece 2025.

Sandy Kondo from Japan has volunteered at seventeen RacingThePlanet / 4 Deserts Races - she also raced in RacingThePlanet: Jordan 2012 and Madagascar 2014. Sandy worked for the South African Embassy in Tokyo before retiring in 2023 and has managed the RacingThePlanet office in Japan for more than ten years. She is a natural organizer with a flair for multi-tasking.

Kind and generous, Sandy is one of our best known cheer-leaders and has assisted dozens of 4 Deserts and RacingThePlanet competitors in preparing for the races. She also works and volunteers at the Comrades Marathon in South Africa, Tokyo Marathon in Japan and, most importantly, multiple 4 Deserts / RacingThePlanet events.

Bev Brammer is a retired nutritionist from Manchester, UK who got bored being retired so now works part time in Customer Services for a large retail company. She followed the exploits of her husband Tony through his 4 Deserts Ultras as a competitor and then experienced life in the desert for herself as a volunteer in the Atacama Crossing (Chile) back in 2010. That was the start of a love for early morning starts & roughing it! Since then she has volunteered in 17 Racing the Planet or 4 Deserts events. Bev is not a novice to sporting achievements herself having climbed Ben Nevis, trekked 60 miles along the Great Wall of China and completed half and full marathons. She enjoys the gym, spin classes & hiking in the great outdoors. We welcome Bev back to her 20th RacingThePlanet Event at RacingThePlanet (Greece) 2025.

Lena Sasse of Germany is a young doctoral student in psychology from Germany. Lena joins her fourth RacingThePlanet / 4 Deserts Ultramarathon after volunteering at the Gobi March (Mongolia) 2023, the Namib Race (Namibia) 2024 and RacingThePlanet: The 20-Year Race (Jordan) 2024. She loves to travel and see different landscapes and cultures. During her time at university, she met people from all over the world, which was an experience she really enjoyed. She enjoys volunteering at the races to combine her passions of travel and to give something to other people while also growing as a person.

Doreen Hoffman is an attorney from the United States. She is an ultramarathon and Ironman athlete who started her RacingThePlanet journey at the Sahara Race (Egypt) 2006. Doreen went on to join the Gobi March (China) 2008, RacingThePlanet: Iceland 2013, the Gobi March (Mongolia) 2019, Namib Race (Namibia) 2022 and The Last Desert (Antarctica) 2022. She also volunteered at the Gobi March (Mongolia) 2023 and the Atacama Crossing 2025. An all-round sportswoman, when she joined the 4 Deserts Club she said: "Anything that gets me outside is welcomed in my life!". A member of the 4 Deserts Club Colin Suckling from Melbourne, Australia works as a Business Manager with the Education Department, “but I am secretly just an adventure seeker”.

Colin and his wife raced and completed the Sahara Race (Egypt) in 2010. He says "it was so tough, but it set us up for many more adventures and helped define a part of me". He went on to complete the Gobi March (China) 2011, Atacama Crossing (Chile) 2012 and The Last Desert (Antarctica) 2012 to join the 4 Deserts Club. It has also widened his eyes to tavel and the big world out there and he has taken on his fair share of indpendent multi-day hikes.

As well as completing four RacingThePlanet / 4 Deserts ultramarathons Coin has also volunteered twice at the Namib Race 2018 and 2019 - and also turned up at the finishline of RacingThePlanet: Jordan 2014 as a surprise to his wife who was racing and won the race. He loves working like minded people and giving back to RacingThePlanet. We look forward to welcoming Colin back to the RacingThePlanet family for the eighth time at RacingThePlanet: Greece 2025.

Michael Flaherty was a volunteer at the Namib Race 2024. He is connected to RacingThePlanet through his fiancé, Elizabeth Brown, and sister, Heather Flaherty, who are both competting at RacingThePlanet: Greece and both completed the Namib Race 2024 (Heather also completed the Atacama Crossing). Born and raised in Boston, Michael now lives in San Juan, Puerto Rico where he co-owns and operates a commodity trading hedge fund. When he is not working, Michael enjoys spending time with his fiancé and two grown children (Katherine and Macdara) scuba diving, fly fishing, hunting, horseback riding and collecting sea glass. His other interests include music and travel. In his younger days, Michael worked as a cowboy on ranches in Calgary, Alberta Canada and Idaho where he rode as a saddle bronc rider in a professional rodeo. He studied classical piano at the Boston Conservatory of Music and played college ice hockey at his alma mater, Amherst College, before earning his MBA from Harvard Business School. Michael sits on the boards of several not-for-profit organizations in Puerto Rico and Boston.
