Thought I was finally over any gut issues and managed to eat half my dinner and breakfast. Made it to check point 1 and then was off desecrating the landscape. Spent the rest of the day trying to catch up to the people I was running with, so didnt do as well as yesterday. Have decided to just eat 2 minute noodles and cup a soups and rely on my race food and carb drinks with no proper meals as its not worth the risk. Some sand dunes today which were fun and there was a watering hole at a vineyard close to camp that was worth the extra walk just to get cool. There is a dog that has been following the front runners for the past couple of days and shes lovely. I would steal her and take her home but I dont think my fur kids would be impressed. Her owner is coming to pick her up from camp tonight. Am definitly looking forward to finishing this  race and having a break, the body needs a rest, and when your out running I always end up running too hard for my own good, just dont like spedning all day out in the sun. There has been quite a few drop outs yesterday hopefully not too many today, I think its just the heat more than anything else. 3 more stages to go

Well day 2 done. Feeling better now we decended a bit and have managed to pick up the pace in the mornings a little before the heat kicks in. We ran through the slot canyons this morning with multiple river crossing, which was my jam and manged to, like a typical kiwi whos used to rivers smash it out compared to others who were a bit cautious. The heat kicked in later in the day and we had quite a big cllimb up the top of the ridge followed by a good sand dune descent which was fun, but the last 10km just sucked in the heat, flat and through open land, boring as bat shit and dying in the heat. The guts seem to be settling now we descended a bit as well and can finally eat which is helping with the energy levels. On the plus side I am winning the tent fart wars but its early days and the competition from my team is tough. I also havent lost the wedding rings yet, touch wood. Unfortunatley some of the top competitors have had sme injuries as the terrain and heat can be unforgiving. Hopefully I can stomach some dinner tonight and cool spot to sit. The knee keeps reminding me to be careful ever now and then but its still holding up, not too keen just to walk it out as I pity the runners that are out there all day as its fuckn hot. Bring on day 3

Day 1 of Atacama done and it sucked! Well sort of. We started at 3200m and after a rough sleep and unable to stomach much in the way of food, I really struggled with the altitude and it felt like are really unfit (which I am a bit after recovering from last year), couldn’t keep any food in, minimal fluids which accumulated in a fall and restraining an already mediocre right knee. On the plus side as we dropped down I started to feel a bit better and could actually run. The entire race is over 2000m so its still gonna feel rough tomorrow. Luckily I did finish before the peak heat, which is between 1400 and 1600 here. Will have to remember to take it easy tomorrow, we have already lost a couple of runners today through injury as some of the terrain is nice and rough. Have managed to make it through all the travel and first day of running without losing our wedding bands as well, which is a huge bonus, and not getting to sun burnt so the future misses wont kill me. Our entire tent has made it in and our team ¨chaffing the dream¨is doing ok. Tomorrow we get wet through the slot canyons before getting covered in sand so blisters are guaranteed. Should hopefully have enough energy tomorrow to keep you updated
